Jobs @ Reckless
We're bound by our positive attitude (we call it our "unrelentingly friendly service") and love of the freedom of riding. Sure, some of us own expensive bikes, but above all, we know it's all about the spirit of riding.
Read about a few of our people, or come into a Reckless store to chat with them in person.
Jon joined Reckless in May 2003 and is the Manager of the Reckless stores in Victoria. He's been a part of the bike industry for over 15 years and was also a bike mechanic. Jon raced in Europe and North America for almost 10 years. He has two road bikes. Since 2003, Jon has been the Director of the Times Colonist Cycling Festival. (Reckless is a sponsor and major supporter of this two-day event in Victoria: www.victoriacyclingfestival.com). Jon's dream bike holiday would be to follow the Tour de France.
Roger is Assistant Manager at the Reckless store on Yates St. He has been with Reckless since 2003. Roger is a dedicated downhill rider and frequently rides at Whistler Mountain Bike Park. His dream bike vacation is Whistler and more Whistler. Roger has 3 mountain bikes and hasn't owned four wheels since his car expired in 1996. His nickname is Peanut Gallery, because of his witty repartee.
Simon is the Manager of the Reckless store on Government St. He raced professionally in Europe for over 4 years before returning to his native England and managing a bike store, before moving to BC. He has also worked as a mechanic. Simon has a titanium road bike and a carbon fibre. He says the best place to ride in all of Europe is Marseille in the south of France. His favourite drink is coffee - as he says, "I'm Italian, what do you expect?"
Luke has been part of Reckless since March 2004 and has been part of the bike store world for over 7 years. He is originally from Saskatoon, which contrary to what you might think, is a great place for mountain biking. He has been getting more into road biking since moving to Victoria, and the Gulf Islands are next on his list to explore. Luke has a road bike and a commuter bike. His favourite drink is Captain Morgan & Coke.
The "Big Wheel" of Reckless, Paul is our founder and visionary. Paul owns a Rek-Tek Hybrid and a GT Cruiser with paperboy basket. He grew up cycling in Nova Scotia, and raced nationally in Canada and internationally in Europe and Africa before migrating to Vancouver in 1985. Paul has been a part of Reckless since 1985. His favourite spot to ride is back and forth between the Reckless Stores, although he's dreaming of a bike vacation in the south of France.
José is the Reckless controller. He joined the management team in 2002 and has become an important part of our current success. His help in managing the day-to-day flow in our stores, of product, inventory, money...you name it... is helped greatly by José's invaluable presence. Jose rides a CCM but has his eyes on a Rek-Tek mountain bike. His dream bike vacation is to Tequisquiapan, two hours north of Mexico City. (We hear tell that it's a hidden little gem of a place.)
Richard is Operations Manager for the two Reckless stores in Vancouver. He has worked in the bike business for over 6 years. He took a brief break to work in the aerospace industry, but then returned as he missed bikes and the healthy lifestyle. Richard owns a downhill mountain bike and a Rek-Tek road bike. He also enjoys rock climbing, hiking, camping - summer or winter. Richard is a registered leader of Boy Scouts. His favourite food is Schezuan and especially his Grandma's dumplings. His favourite drinks are Coke and hot chocolate (but not together).
Ian joined Reckless in July 2004 as a mechanic. He has more than 5 years experience as a mechanic. His own bikes include folding bikes, a road bike and a mountain bike. He has been repairing bikes for years, and first learnt on his folding bike, which seemed to need a bit of TLC to keep it going. Water is his favourite drink - not only because it's free but also because it's completely what you need. He's originally from England but has lived in BC for over 25 years, so we think that qualifies him as a local.
